The mission of Founders Place is to enhance quality of life for adults living with memory loss through an atmosphere of joy and a community of support while providing respite to caregivers.
Founders Place is a respite ministry for adults living with memory loss. Through visual art, movement, music, storytelling, games and fellowship, Founders Place stimulates cognition, nurtures growth, and provides purpose and meaning for participants with memory loss, as well as the dedicated volunteers who serve as intentional companions. Hours of operation are Tuesdays and Thursdays, 10am-2pm. Cost is $40/day. Scholarship is available. For enrollment details, please contact Susanna Whitsett, Director of Founders Place.
“Care Partners” weekly support group for caregivers of those with memory loss offers a safe space for confidential discussion, listening, and education. This group meets on Tuesdays, 10:15-11:15am. Together, Founders Place respite program and Care Partners weekly support group foster a community of connection and care. The Growing Need for Memory Loss Respite Care
• 92,000 Alabamians currently have Alzheimer’s and the numbers are increasing with the fast growing 65+ “baby Boomer” population.
• More than 304,000 Alabamians serve as caregivers for someone with memory loss which takes both an emotional and financial toll.
• Locally, there is a shortage of respite care programs with many families placed on waiting lists.
