Saint Luke’s has a long history of sharing its resources with the community in creative and purposeful ways. Several important local agencies were birthed by the parish, including Pre School Partners, Glenwood Autism and Behavioral Center, Norwood Resource Center, and others. Although we are situated in the Village of Mountain Brook we consider ourselves a “city church” that responds to the needs of the larger Birmingham area. We seek to serve our Birmingham neighbors in need in many different ways, including hands-on service, partnerships, monthly agency-designated collections, and financial grants. We respond to the Great Commandment, loving God with all our hearts and loving our neighbors as ourselves, by encouraging all our members to find deeper connections to those in need.
In March of every calendar year we award grants to agencies meeting the following criteria:
- Focus on local, poverty-related needs (housing, hunger, education, work readiness, etc.)
- Promotes solutions rather than dependencies
- Provides opportunities for parishioners to volunteer
- Provides quality services in a cost effective
- The grant makes a real difference in agency performance.
