Wednesday Nights
Every Wednesday night we have supper from 5:30-6:30. From 6:30-7:15 there is a contemplative service of Holy Eucharist with candlelight and music in our Chapel. As always, we hope people will use their Wednesday evening time at Saint Luke’s in whatever way suits them best. Some choose worship or a more formal educational gathering. Others meet for coffee and conversation or just a time of quiet. After supper, it’s “gather and scatter.”
Wednesday Night Supper and Programs Resume January 16, 2013
Programs in Graham Hall:
January 16 in Graham Hall. “Responding to Brene Brown.” A panel of distinguished thinkers will discuss “The Hustle for Worthiness,” our Claypool Lecture. Bring your questions and comments.
January 23 in Graham Hall. Soldiers in Hoop Skirts ~ Spies, Nurses, and other Fighting Women of the Civil War with storyteller Dolores Hydock. Women on both sides of the conflict did their part for the war effort – as spies, soldiers, nurses, and supporters from the home front. This program shares the true, sometimes funny, sometimes touching, stories of some of the sisters, wives, mothers, and daughters who snooped, smuggled, sewed, nursed, and risked their lives, health, and fortunes for a cause they loved. The program includes photographs, letters, journal entries, and excerpts from memoirs written by these women after the war.
For Parents, January 30 at 6:15, Saint Luke’s will show the thought-provoking film, “Race to Nowhere” in Graham Hall. Child-care and activities will be extended so that entire content may be seen (1 hour and 25 minutes), ending the evening at 7:40. Are our children experiencing so much pressure to achieve, they are stretched too far? How can we help them discern their goals and set their priorities? “Race to Nowhere” complements our Sunday school class on parenting, beginning Sunday morning, January 13 at 9:15 in Graham Hall.
