Parish Wide Opportunities to Serve
Outreach Update February 18, 2024

There are THREE ways to get involved and support St. Andy’s Pantry, which as you probably know by now, is a ministry of St. Andrew’s Episcopal Church and one of the many ministries to which St. Luke’s allocates funding. They feed about 300 people who walk, carpool, or take the bus at each food distribution, which happens two Saturdays a month.

1) Volunteers are needed to stock the pantry, pack the bags, check in guests, and hand out the bags. The days are Thursdays and Saturdays, every other week. GREAT FAMILY OPPORTUNITY! Sign up for our next days, February 29 and March 2, or later in March or April using this link.

2) No child should be without an Easter Basket on Easter morning. With food shortages and high prices, without your help this could be a reality for many of the families who rely on St. Andy’s. We need your help with donating or creating Easter Baskets for these children in need. Contributing to this cause is super easy. An Amazon Wishlist has been created to order the items for these baskets, which will be going to children ages 2-12 yrs. We are partnering with St. Mary’s with a goal of creating 100 baskets. Amazon makes it easy to order, and ship directly to:
The Easter Basket Project
St. Mary’s-on-the-Highlands Episcopal Church

Timeline:
• Monday, March 4th – Last day to order from
Amazon Wishlist
• Sunday, March 10th at 3:30 pm- Basket assembly
line at St. Mary’s in Randolph Memorial Hall.
• Saturday, March 16th – volunteers needed at
Andy’s pantry for food and basket distribution.
(see above link for general sign up)

3. Christ Church Serve Day on Saturday, February 24 from 10 a.m. to noon. at Christ Church Fairfield. Sign up here.

3) The first of the many steps for this successful food pantry is driving and picking up the food at the Food Bank on two Thursday mornings a month. We are in need of the person who will commit to this important ministry (and bring a friend!). The volunteer(s) would rent a U-Haul box truck (to be reimbursed) and drive to the Food Bank in Homewood. After signing in, he/she would back the truck up to the loading dock where the food bank employees will load the truck, and then drive the truck to St. Andy’s Pantry’s (at St. Andrew’s church) where volunteers will unload the truck. No heavy lifting required for this job! Once truck is emptied, it is returned to U-Haul. EASY!!! Are there any retired men looking for something meaningful to do a couple mornings a month? This hole needs to be filled quickly, so please let me know soon if you are interested.

Local parishes collaborating and supporting each other is such a wonderful thing. St. Andrew’s does amazing work, and they need our help.
