Critically acclaimed author to speak at Saint Luke’s Episcopal Church
Has life in the carpool lane and the desire for a perfectly manicured lawn and perfectly manicured children become an obstacle to our faith? Is our relationship with God just another box we need to check off along with the grocery shopping and homework? As our society faces uncertain times and an uncertain future, people are beginning to see that their faith has become just another bullet point on the to-do list of suburban life.
Helping us to understand that our relationship with God is redeemable is critically acclaimed author David Goetz, author of “Death by Suburb: How to keep the suburbs from killing your soul” – an honest and hilarious look at how life in the suburbs can actually impede one’s faith in God.
"I have visited Birmingham several times the past few years, and I love its beauty and the warmth of its people,” said Goetz. “I am excited about the opportunity at Saint Luke's to talk about the suburbs and how they shape our faith."
Goetz will be the keynote speaker at St. Luke’s Episcopal Church’s Claypool Lecture Series on January 9 at 6 pm and 10 at 10 am. The Claypool Lectures were created to honor the service of Rev. John Claypool, one of the country’s most compelling preachers and Christian authors.
Goetz is a former editor for the Leadership Journal and currently writes for Christianity Today. He and his family live in Wheaton, Illinois. Tickets can be obtained by contacting Barbara at 802-6207and are $15 each. St. Luke’s Episcopal Church is located at 3736 Montrose Road just outside of Crestline Village.
